Why does my Brother DCP-T420W printer not print Word documents from my Mac via USB, but prints PDF files and pictures?


I have a Brother DCP-T420W printer that works fine with my Acer laptop, but when I connect it to my Mac using a USB to type C connector, it does not print any Word documents. It only prints PDF files and pictures. I followed the instructions that came with the printer, but I cannot find a solution online. How can I fix this problem?
